AMERICAN GIRL DOLLHOUSE DIY

An Experiment

GETTING STARTED

My husband thought this would be a great teaching lesson for our daughter...so he had her decide and design (with some help) on the size she wanted.  Then, her and her dad got to work.

MOM STARTS SHOPPING!

We started looking around for fun accessories and things for the house.  We discovered great and inexpensive finds at Menards, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn Fabric and even Craigslist.

WALLPAPER AND FLOORING

We spent a lot of time talking about what we wanted in each room.  We knew we needed two bedrooms for her dolls and we wanted room for additional "friends" to come over for slumber parties.  We also enjoy tea parties, so a place to eat was needed.  Finally, a rustic room to relax came together as we thought it would be a perfect place to decorate for the holidays.  We opted not to create a bathroom or a kitchen at this time...but the house can always grow if this pandemic stretches on...

A ROOM FOR IZZY

Izzy's room was painted white and then we added gold wall stickers.  The flooring for both bedrooms was actually contact paper found on amazon.  It was a vintage wood panel paper.

LILIAN'S ROOM

Lillian's room was created with this adorable bird contact paper and we extended the same flooring from Izzy's room.  Both bedrooms were designed in honor of her two Grandmothers.

THE ICE CREAM PARLOR

Flooring and Decor Continued

This was the first room created and we had so much fun getting started.  We painted the walls pink, added this adorable black and white contact paper, had the table and chairs and then got creative with accessories.  We found the ice cream lamp on amazon, and due to the size, we added a candlestick holder to make it taller.  It's all about bright colors and fun in this room!

LOG CABIN/RUSTIC ROOM

This was the last room created.  We found the chair and table on Craigslist and then it began to come together.  Our family loves log cabins and getting away...so naturally we needed this in our new home.  The log cabin paper was found on amazon and the flooring was leftover from a kitchen project.  The fireplace ties everything in!

GETTING CLOSE TO COMPLETION

We're getting close...adding a few more details each day.  We are waiting for a rabbit head to arrive for our cabin.  (Our take on a deer head).  We need to decide if we want to put flooring in on our deck.  We might try to make a picnic table for our garden area...right now we are using a step stool and that seems to work ok.  Please let us know if you have any questions on what we've done or where we found items.  We're happy to share our ideas.  What a fun project this has been!!  We will post additional pictures when we add something new.  We hope you've enjoyed it!
